It is mandatory that international students from non-native English-speaking countries prove they can communicate in the English language before acceptance into a British university. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is used to assess the students’ ability to communicate in the English language. The test assesses four aspects of communication in the English language – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
We offer introductory lessons for students whose first language is not English; this programme is named the English for Academic Purpose (EAP) class. Students who enrol for our EAP programme are taught in small groups of six to learn and become proficient in communicating in English. EAP lessons are held weekly during the term and greatly enhance a student’s chances of scoring the required IELTS points to be considered for admission to a British University.
All potential international students who are interested in applying to WCS will need to have a sufficient level of English for the following reasons:
- To be able to obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), a key Visa requirement;
- For the complex scientific English language used in A-Levels.
- The WCS IELTS requirement is 6.5 overall or an A Grade in GCSE/IGCSE English language.
